At the spur of the moment, 2 weeks before Valentine's Day of 2006, Patrick suggested to Anita to take a trip to Las Vegas together to celebrate Valentine's Day. Anita was hesitant, as it was a crazy and hectic week at work. But Patrick insisted it would be fun and that a trip would be a nice break for the both of them. The plan was to stay at the Wynn hotel (Anita was so surprised because Patrick would normally complain about how expensive this hotel would cost), watch two shows (Avenue Q and Le Reve), and have Valentine's Day dinner at the Bellagio.
Anita was super excited about spending two days alone, but she was also a little disappointed that Patrick told her that she would not receive any flowers for Valentines Day. He convinced her that it was a waste of money to get flowers and not be able to transport them back home afterwards.
On the day of their departure to Las Vegas, the two frantically left a chaotic work day and rushed to catch their flight. As security at the airport was high, the two passed through security procedures through x-ray. Little did Anita know, Patrick had her engagement ring with him in his backpack. As Anita was leaving the checkpoint, Patrick was stopped by a security woman when something was flagged by his backpack contents. Since Anita was only 10 feet away, Patrick whispered to the woman that he had an engagement ring in his bag. However, unexpectedly, the woman said "What?" loudly and frightened Patrick even further. She finally understood (luckily Anita did not hear) and asked Patrick to step away taking the bag with the engagement ring inside. Patrick was then cleared from any security threat, but was so nervous he forgot to retrieve his other bag from the xray machine. Luckily he remembered it before they took off.

When they safely arrived to the Wynn hotel, the excitement of spending Valentine's Day together grew. While Anita was awed by the beautiful room and it's amenities, Patrick was busy and excited to have Internet connection again (it was a long 1 hour flight)! Soon after they were settled down and instead of going downstairs to walk around the strip, Anita decided to go to bed early. While Anita was asleep, Patrick frantically went into his jacket to make sure that the ring was still there.
The next day was Valentine's Day (aka the big day). Anita and Patrick decided to have lunch outside of the Paris hotel overlooking the Bellagio fountain show. It was a warm and sunny day. Normally Patrick would have just walked out with a t-shirt and jeans under this type of weather, but because he had to carry the ring with him, he needed to put on a big fleece jacket so that the ring could safely rest inside the zipped pocket without Anita noticing. As they started walking along the strip after lunch, Patrick accidentally confessed that he was feeling a bit warm. At that moment, Anita had suggested to Patrick to take off his fleece and let her wear it because she was actually feeling a little cold. Not knowing what to do, Patrick blatantly lied to her and told her that he was then cold again and thought he was coming down with a fever. Anita heard that and was quite agitated by his response (seeing that Patrick's face was sweating like crazy), but nonetheless, she bit her tongue and continued to bare the cold. Throughout the rest of the day Patrick was extremely nervous. Whenever he had the chance to be away from Anita (like in the men's room) he would empty his zipped pocket and make sure that the ring was still there.
Finally the evening had arrived, and they were late for dinner at the Picasso restaurant in the Bellagio. Patrick seemed extremely nervous while they were stuck in traffic, and called the restaurant numerous times to ensure that their reservation would not be canceled. As they got to the restaurant, they were greeted and led to their table by a very friendly manager. Little did Anita know, Patrick had already told the Manager about the plan for his proposal that night. The manager proceed to offer Anita and Patrick the freedom to walk out to the outdoor balcony where they could privately view the fountain show (no one else had permission to do so except them). The dinner proceeded with excellent food, wine, dessert, fountain show, and great service by their waiter, whom offered to take pictures of them every 10 minutes. Anita thought it was a bit strange, but at the same time she was impressed by the excellent service that the restaurant was providing.
After a nice dinner, Patrick insisted that they should go back to their hotel room to freshen up before watching Le Reve. Little did Anita know, she was in for a big surprise! As the two of them entered the hotel room, Anita was greeted by her favorite bottle of champagne, a big bouquet of her favorite purple roses, and a Valentine's card. Anita was so excited and thought that was her Valentine's gift. While Anita was drinking her glass of champagne and enjoying the stunning night view of the Las Vegas Strip, Patrick surprised her again with a Tiffany wrapped blue box. It was a Tiffany's diamond necklace that Anita had always wanted. At that moment Anita was so surprised by how much money he was spending on her gifts, that in the back of her mind she was worried he wouldn't have enough savings for her engagement ring in the future :). After putting the necklace on her, Patrick took out yet another wrapped gift. This time, it was a pink (her favorite color) scrapbook that Patrick had spent endless nights secretly working on. Inside the scrapbook it contained pictures that highlighted many different moments of their relationship. The scrapbook was so cute! He decorated it with stickers, colored paper, and captions per photo. The final page of the scrapbook looked like this:
You received:
- A card
- Champagne
- Flowers
- Necklace
- Scrapbook
- And ...
AND THE REST IS HISTORY! (you know what the answer was :) )
